Cookie Policy

This policy explains how this website uses cookies and similar technologies. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. Cookies let a site remember your choices between visits, and let analytics and advertising partners measure traffic and serve relevant ads. Similar technologies include web beacons and local storage.
Categories we use
| Category | What it does | Requires consent |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Remembering whether you accepted or declined this cookie notice. The site cannot function as intended without it. | No |
| Analytics | Counting visits and understanding in aggregate which pages are useful. Data is not used to identify you personally. | Yes |
| Advertising | Set by advertising partners, including Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager, to measure ad performance and to show relevant advertising on this and other sites. | Yes |
Your choices
On your first visit, a banner lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies. Essential cookies are set regardless, because the site needs them to remember your decision.
You can change your mind at any time:
- Clear cookies for this site in your browser settings, and choose again on your next visit.
- Block third-party cookies entirely in your browser settings.
- Turn on your browser’s “Do Not Track” or global privacy control signal, where supported.
- Opt out of personalised advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings, and from many other networks at aboutads.info.
Declining non-essential cookies does not stop you using the calculator. It may mean the advertising you see is less relevant to you.
How to opt out, step by step
Three routes, in order of how much they cover:
- This site's own banner. Decline non-essential cookies on your first visit, or clear cookies for this site in your browser settings and choose again. This stops everything except the cookies needed to remember your choice.
- Google's own controls. Turn off personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings. This affects ads served by Google across all sites, not only this one.
- Industry opt-out pages. aboutads.info covers many US ad networks; youronlinechoices.com covers participating EU networks.
To see what is currently stored, open your browser's developer tools → Application (Chrome, Edge) or Storage (Firefox, Safari) → Cookies, and select this domain. Everything the site has set will be listed there, and you can delete individual entries.
One honest limitation: opting out of personalised advertising does not reduce the number of ads, and it does not remove advertising from this site. It stops your browsing history being used to choose which ads you see.
Third parties
Advertising and analytics partners operate their own cookie policies. We do not control the cookies they set. Where required by law, those partners operate under a consent management platform so that you can control personalised advertising.
