## What this is

A machine-readable reference of canine and feline daily energy requirements and portion
figures. Every number is computed by the same calculation engine that powers the
calculators at PetPortionCalc.com — nothing is hand-entered.

## How to read it

- **Energy (kcal) values** follow the NRC method: RER = 70 × kg^0.75,
  multiplied by a species-specific activity factor (see `energy_multipliers`).
- The cat single-formula clinical figure uses 100 × kg^0.67 — note the exponent is
  **0.67, not 0.75**.
- 🔴 **Food energy density is an assumption, never a constant.** Any row with a
  `kcal_per_100g` column carries its own `assumption` column. The site deliberately
  publishes more than one density assumption (dog maintenance, cat maintenance,
  species-comparison) and labels each one rather than picking a single "official" value.
- **Provenance:** every row has a `source` field pointing back to https://petportioncalc.com/facts.
